I bought my MRE kit secondhand, but it’s something we now stock in the Grumpy shop. Why? Because they work. It’s an electrically-activated, air-assisted shifter – tap a button and it kills the spark and an air-ram shifts a gear. I just wire them to the horn button, and for convenience I’ve added a cheap 12V tyre pump under the seat to repressurise the reservoir. It’s faultless in itself – but it needs to be mounted properly, with no slop in the shift lever. And as we found, running it with too little pressure results in missed gears, blown engines… Like anything, you just need to fit/use it right. An essential for anyone getting into sprints and drags.
