1987 ENGINE four 51.6mm Ignition TRANSMISSION Primary/final drive Gearbox chain CHASSIS Rear suspension DIMENSIONS PERFORMANCE 105.5bhp@10,500rpm 57.8lb.ft@8250rpm 147mph as a 35-year-old 750, but full stop, pulling from nothing and building forcefully without complaint, peak or trough, right through to five figures. Former PB editor Rupert Paul said of the FZ motor in ’87: “Pick a gear, any gear, it won’t mind.” He was bang on. The chassis works best on ’89 onwards models.a 17-inch front wheel dramatically improves tyre choice, and there’s a slightly wider rear rim too, albeit an 18-inch.the other advantage of ’89 spec is larger diameter front discs and four-pot calipers. Handling is sure-footed rather than razor sharp, but for a road bike that’s no bad thing. Admittedly the later bike doesn’t have the visual appeal of the original. Showing off that engine underneath a distinctive half-fairing gave the early FZ real presence – the later bike’s fully-faired styling looks clumsy by comparison.the modestly padded seat was often criticized for a lack of comfort, but compared to the postage stamp perches of many race reps the FZ’S ergonomics are positively luxurious. If there’s one rule when buying an FZ it’s condition.they weren’t built to the same exquisite level asvfrs, and corrosion doesn’t need a second invitation to take hold.aim high and you won’t go far wrong. A tidy FZ750 is a great thing.
