An evening out at the movies
WONDER Based on R.j.palacio’s bestselling novel, this film tells the inspiring story of Auggie Pullman, a young boy born with a facial deformity. With his mum and dad’s support (Julia Roberts and Owen Wilson), he wants to be accepted at the local school. It’s a difficult journey, but will the other kids recognise his beauty and courage behind the mask? Take tissues. Out 7 April
RULES DON’T APPLY Warren Beatty pays homage to the infamously quirky Hollywood millionaire Howard Hughes in this charming movie. Beatty plays the lead role, besides writing the script and directing. The cast includes Lily Collins (Phil’s daughter) as Marla, the starlet, and Alden Ehrenreich as Frank, the chauffeur, who find themselves breaking Hughes’s golden rule that staff must not fall in love with each other. Watch out, too, for an exquisite performance from Annette Bening (Mrs Beatty). Out 10 March
THE TIME OF THEIR LIVES Veteran Brit actresses, Joan and Pauline Collins star in this feelgood film. Dame Joan plays Helen, an ex-hollywood siren hellbent on escaping a London care home to go to an ex lover’s funeral in the French hideaway of Ile de Ré. The latter is repressed housewife Priscilla, who is determined to help her. Together, they race by coach, ferry, car and foot to get to the funeral on time. Along the way, they discover the true meaning of friendship. A hilarious watch. Out 10 March
