Sarah Beeny’s tricks to brighten home and garden this season

Ilove springtime. If I could make it happen, I’d have 11 months of May and one of December. There’s a good reason for the saying ‘full of the joys of spring’, as I think most people feel buoyant at this time of year. So there’s no better time to tackle those jobs around the house, both big and small...

SAY IT WITH FLOWERS

Above all, spring means fresh flowers! I’m a big fan of either one flower in a simple glass or a big luscious bunch of colour and greenery filling a corner of a room. If you have a very big vase, you can really go to town – as I do

– by cramming it with brightly coloured blooms and lots of greenery. Or you can make a standout minimalist display with willow and twigs, decorated with ribbon or egg decorations for Easter.

USE A SPLASH OF COLOUR

The latest trend for fresh green colours is one I like as they bring a welcome splash of spring. My advice, though, is to use them in the right place, such as an airy living room or kitchen, and in moderation – on a feature wall or as a colour pop on woodwork. It’s very much a ‘spring’ colour and by the summer, you’ll be sick of it if it’s painted on every wall!
