MEASUREMEN­TS

To fit bust 81-86(92-97)cm; Finished measuremen­ts: Bust 97(111)cm; Length 65(70)cm; Sleeve length 46(48)cm.

MATERIALS

7(8) 100g balls of Wendy Supreme Cotton DK in Berry 1958.

Pair of 3.75mm knitting needles.

TENSION

23 sts and 30 rows to 10cm square over st-st using 3.75mm needles.

BACK AND FRONT

(both alike) With 3.75mm needles, cast on 113(129) sts. Moss st row K1, [p1, k1] to end. This row forms moss st and is repeated 3 times more. Now work in diamond moss st patt as follows: 1st row (RS) K1, [p1, k1] to end. 2nd row P2, [moss st 25(29), p3] 4 times, ending last rep p2. 3rd row K3, [moss st 23(27), k5] 4 times, ending last rep k3. 4th row P4, moss st 21(25), p7] 4 times, ending last rep p4. 5th row K5, [moss st 19(23), k9] 4 times, ending last rep k5. 6th row P6, [moss st 17(21), p11] 4 times, ending last rep p6. Cont in this way, so on every row working 2 moss sts fewer and 2 sts more in st-st in each repeat and 1 st more in st-st at each end, until the following row has been worked:

14th(16th) row P14(16), [moss st 1, p27(31)] 4 times, ending last rep p14(16). Now work as follows: 15th(17th)

As 12th(14th) row. 17th(19th) row As 11th(13th) row. 18th(20th) row As 10th(12th) row. Cont in this way, so on every row working 2 moss sts more and 2 sts fewer in st-st in each repeat and 1 st fewer in st-st at each end, until the following rows has been worked:

27th(31st) row As 1st row. 28th(32nd) row K1, [p1, k1] to end. These 28(32) rows form the pattern and are repeated. Cont in patt until back/front measures 60(65)cm from cast on edge, ending with a WS row.

Shape neck Next row (RS) Patt 44(50) sts, turn and cont on these sts only, leave rem sts on a spare needle. Cast off 5 sts at beg (neck edge) of next row, 4 sts at beg of foll WS row, 2(3) sts at beg of next 2 WS rows, then dec 1 st at neck edge of foll 2 WS rows. 29(33) sts. Patt a further 4 rows. Shape shoulder Cast off.

With RS facing, slip 25(29) sts at centre onto a holder, rejoin yarn to rem 44(50) sts, patt to end. Patt 1 row. Cast off 5 sts at beg (neck edge) of next row, 4 sts at beg of foll RS row, 2(3) sts at beg of next 2 RS rows, then dec 1 st at neck edge of foll 2 RS rows. 29(33) sts. Patt a further 3 rows. Shape shoulder Cast off.

SLEEVES

With 3.75mm needles, cast on 53(61) sts.

Moss st row K1, [p1, k1] to end. This row forms moss st and is repeated 4 times more. Beg with a k row, work in st-st. Work 8 rows. Inc row (RS) K2, m1, k to last 2 sts, m1, k2. Work 7 rows. Rep the last 8 rows 13(14) times more, then the inc row again. 83(93) sts.

Cont straight until sleeve measures 46(48)cm from cast on edge, ending with a WS row. Cast off.

NECKBAND

Join right shoulder seam. With 3.75mm needles, pick up and k21(25) down left front neck, k across 25(29) sts at centre front, pick up and k20(25) sts up right front neck, 20(25) sts down right back neck, k across 25(29) sts at centre back, then pick up and k21(26) sts up left back neck. 132(159) sts. K 1 row. 1st row (RS) [K1, p1] to end. 2nd row [P1, k1] to end. These 2 rows form moss st. Moss st a further 3 rows. Cast off knitwise on WS.

TO MAKE UP

Join left shoulder and neckband seam. With centre of cast off edge of sleeve to shoulder, sew on sleeves. Join side and sleeve seams.
