How to… DO A SMOKY EYE

For a wearable take on this classic look, try a warm brown shade (it’s more forgiving than black) and, using an eyeshadow brush, blend it over the lids and into the socket line, but no higher. You can also take it under the eyes close to the lash line, then use a black pencil along the upper lash line and smudge. Apply lots of black mascara. You can ramp it up for evenings by adding a line of kohl pencil inside the lower lashes.

How to… WEAR EYELINER

On-trend eyeliner adds instant definition. Follow the natural line of your eyes, then flick the liner upwards slightly before the outer edges. ‘Make sure you’re looking straight into the mirror,’ says make-up artist Ruby Hammer, ‘and rest your elbows on a table to give you extra support.’ Try Bobbi Brown Long-wear

Gel Eyeliner (£19) and Ultra Fine Eye Liner Brush (£22).

How to… APPLY FALSE LASHES

A modern way to wear false eyelashes is to use individual ones to add volume and boost length. Dab a blob of glue on to the back of your hand and then, using tweezers, dip the root of the lash into it. Looking down into the mirror, place the false lashes on top of your natural ones, tight to the roots. For the most natural effect, apply the longer lashes at the outer edge of the eye and the shorter ones in the middle. Mascara will help the lashes mesh together, but wait until they feel completely dry before applying it. ➺
