An evening out at the movies
UNLOCKED
This film, about CIA agents on the trail of terrorists about to attempt a biological attack on London, is a cut above the usual spy thriller. Ace British director Michael Apted, who directed the James Bond hit The World Is Not Enough, calls the shots, while A-list actors, including Orlando Bloom, John Malkovich and Michael Douglas, star. Also look out for a gun-toting agent played by Swedish actress Noomi Rapace.
Out 5 May THEIR FINEST
Based on Lissa Evans’s novel, this romantic movie is set in Blitz-torn London. Gemma Arterton plays Catrin Cole, a naive screenwriter tasked with making a moraleboosting film to inspire the US to join the war. Her equally inexperienced co-writer, Tom Buckley, is played by Sam Claflin, while Bill Nighy plays a fading matinee idol – their reluctant star. Funny and moving. Out 21 April
SNATCHED
Emily, an uninhibited thirtysomething, persuades her conservative mum, Linda, to go on an exotic holiday to Ecuador, after her boyfriend dumps her. High jinks follow when they’re kidnapped by locals. Hollywood icon Goldie Hawn and American funny girl Amy Schumer feature in this mother-daughter caper. Out 19 May
GUARDIANS OF
THE GALAXY, VOL 2
A sci-fi movie based on the characters created by Marvel comic books might not be top of your must-see list, but this blockbuster is hugely enjoyable, with great special effects, laughout-loud humour and a terrific cast. American heart-throb Chris Pratt plays Star-lord, who’s in search of his mysterious dad, and Zoe Saldana is a green, yet strangely beautiful, woman who helps him – along with a strong cast of female characters. Try it, you’ll love it! Out 28 April
