Honesty, now that’s refreshing!

- JO CHECKLEY, EXECUTIVE EDITOR

I’d just battled my son off to school and, like on many mornings, there’d been a few tensions – why had I reheated his breakfast pancakes in the microwave (it makes them too stodgy, apparently)? And why did I put so much tuna filling in his packedlunch sandwiches (crime of the century!). So, arriving a little frazzled at work and thinking, as always, that parenting is never easy, to my joy, I dived into our wonderful interview with Kirstie Allsopp (page 8) and read how even she admits that she’s not the perfect parent. Okay, personally, I think she’s a bit harsh on herself, saying it’s because she lets her sons experiment with all those ‘dangerous’ toys that would send ‘elf and safety’ into a tailspin. But isn’t it refreshing to hear a celebrity speak with such honesty? That’s the thing with Kirstie, she doesn’t sugarcoat anything and talks openly about her weight, relationships and family. It makes for a great read and certainly made me feel better by the end of it. Talking of feeling good, check out our amazing wellbeing buys (page 78). Who doesn’t need an instant energy booster or a stress buster? (Note to self: buy some on the way home, ready for the following morning’s school run!). Ticking off the other feelgood factors we should all be embracing in these joyous last days of summer is how to throw the perfect garden party (page 94) and our pick of inspiring holidays that could set your life off in a new direction (page 138). Let me know if you try one!
