Turn an empty cardboard box into creative masks

-

You will need • Pencil

• Corrugated cardboard

• Scalpel and cutting mat

• Sharp scissors

• Glue dots

• Bright neon string (pipii.co.uk)

• Bright neon paints and artist’s brush • Black marker pen Make it

❶ Look on the internet for mask ideas. Animals and skeletons are a good start. Draw or trace the design on to the card. Cut around the pencil lines with a sharp scalpel. Finish with sharp scissors. If you are making the wolf mask (bottom left), cut out the 3D nose shape from a separate piece of card. If you are making the skeleton mask (top left), cut out a set of teeth. Make holes for the string on each side of the mask.

❷ Using the glue dots, glue the teeth of the skeleton to the front of the mask. The glue dots are raised and so they give a 3D effect to the teeth. Score down the middle of the wolf’s nose design and then attach it to the mask using the glue dots.

➌ Cut 6 lengths of string to approximately 80cm. We used pink, orange and yellow neon-coloured string. Gather 3 lengths together and fold in half. Push through one of the holes in the side of the mask to make a loop. Thread the ends through the loop to form a tie. Do the same with the other 3 lengths on the other side of the mask.

➍ Using neon paints and a black marker, decorate your mask with dots, curls and slashes.
