Millennial­s hate networking, but they do love ‘connecting’. Networking is too formal, too dry and certainly too hierarchic­al for their tastes. Why wait for a networking event to approach someone? Far better – and quicker

– to connect directly over Instagram, Linkedin, Twitter or Facebook. Millennial­s aren’t big on business cards, either. They’re bad for the environmen­t. Plus, they know that all business cards quietly die in the inside pocket of everyone’s blazer. Far better to trade emails, follow up and then ‘check in’ every now and then with a link to an interestin­g article that might appeal to that person. This is called ‘bespoke connecting’ and is far more effective than enforced conversati­on starters over networking drinks.
