STRIPED SWEATER MEASUREMEN­TS

To fit bust 81-86(92-97: 102-107:112-117)cm

Finished measuremen­ts

Bust 97(106:117:126)cm; Length to shoulder 58(59:62:63)cm; Sleeve length 46(47:48:49)cm

MATERIALS

4(5:5:6) 100g balls of King Cole Cottonsoft DK in French Navy 741 (A) and two 100g balls in Light Grey 3032 (B).

Pair each of 3.75mm and 4mm knitting needles.

3.75mm circular needle,

40cm long.

TENSION

22 sts and 30 rows to 10cm square over st-st using 4mm needles.

BACK AND FRONT (BOTH ALIKE)

With 3.75mm needles and A, cast on 109(119:131:141) sts. ** 1st row

(RS) K1, [p1, k1] to end. Change to B. 2nd row P to end. 3rd row P1, [k1, p1] to end. Change to A. 4th row P to end. These 4 rows form the broken moss st and are repeated twice more. Change to 4mm needles **. Cont in patt as set in A only, until work measures 30(30:32:32)cm from cast on edge, ending with a 3rd row. Beg with a 4th row, work in striped patt as before until work measures 40(40:42:42)cm, ending with a 1st row.

Shape armholes

Cast off 6(8:8:10) sts in patt at beg of next 2 rows. 97(103:115:121) sts.

Cont straight in stripe patt until back measures 44(44:46:46)cm from cast on edge, ending with a 3rd row. Cont in patt as set in B only for a further 7.5cm, ending with a 3rd row, then work 2 rows in A, then cont in B only until work measures 56(57:60:61)cm from cast on edge, ending with a 3rd (RS) row.

Shape neck

Next row (WS) Patt 30(32:37:39) sts, turn and cont on these sts only, leave rem sts on a spare needle. Cast off 4 sts at beg (neck edge) of next row, 3 sts at beg of foll RS row and 2 sts at beg of next RS row.

Shape shoulder

Cast off rem 21(23:28:30) sts. With WS facing, slip 37(39:41:43) sts at centre on to a holder, rejoin yarn to rem 30(32:37:39) sts, cast off 4 sts, patt to end. Patt 1 row. Cast off 3 sts at beg (neck edge) of next row and 2 sts at beg of foll WS row. Patt 1 row. Cast off rem 21(23:28:30) sts.

SLEEVES

With 3.75mm needles and A, cast on 47(51:53:57) sts. Work as given for Back and Front from ** to **. Cont in patt in A only, patt 3 rows. Inc row (WS) P1, m1, p to last st, m1, p1. Taking inc sts into patt, patt 5 rows.

Rep the last 6 rows until there are 79(83:87:91) sts, at the same

time, when sleeve measures approximat­ely 39(40:41:42)cm, ending with a 3rd row, work in stripe patt as before. When all incs have been made, cont straight in striped patt until sleeve measures 46(47:48:49) cm, ending with a WS row. Place a marker at each end of last row and work a further 9(11:11:13) rows. Cast off loosely but evenly.

NECK EDGING

Join shoulder seams. With RS facing, 3.75mm circular needle and B, beg at left shoulder seam, pick up and k11 sts down left front neck, k across 37(39:41:43) sts at centre front, pick up and k11 sts up right front neck and 11 sts down right back neck, k across 37(39:41:43) sts at centre back, then pick up and k11 sts up left back neck. 118(122:126:130) sts. 1st round

[P1, k1] to end of round. 2nd round K to end of round. Cast off purlwise.

TO MAKE UP

With centre of cast off edge of sleeve to shoulder, sew sleeves into armholes, easing to fit and with row-ends above markers sewn to sts cast off at underarm. Join side and sleeve seams, carefully matching stripes.
