MATERIALS

5(6:6:7:8) 50g balls of Rowan Summerlite 4 ply in Seashell 437 (A) and one 50g ball in Anchor Grey 446 (B).

Pair each 2.25mm and 3mm knitting needles.

TENSION

28 sts and 36 rows to 10cm square over st-st using 3mm needles.

With 2.25mm needles and A, cast on 131(145:159:173:187) sts. K 10 rows. Change to 3mm needles and beg with a k row, work 4 rows in st-st, ending with a WS. Joining and breaking colours as required and using the intarsia technique, work colour stripes and chevrons from Body Chart as follows: 1st row (RS) With B, k82(89:97:104:112), k11 sts as 1st row of body chart, with B, k38(45:51:58:64). 2nd row With B, p38(45:51:58:64), p11 sts as 2nd row of body chart, with B, p82(89:97:104:112). These 2 rows set the position of body chart. Working correct chart rows as set, cont in st-st, working colour stripes as follows: 3rd and 4th rows With

B. 5th to 8th rows With A. 9th to 12th rows With B. 13th to 16th rows With A. 17th to 20th rows With B. 21st to 26th rows With A. These 26 rows complete the stripes and chevrons. Shape armholes

Cast off 4(5:6:7:8) sts at beg of next 2 rows. 123(135:147:159: 171) sts. Dec 1 st at each end of next 9(11:13:15:17) rows, then on foll 3 RS rows, then on foll 4th row. 97(105:113:121:129) sts. Cont straight until armhole measures 18(19.5:21:22.5:24) cm, ending with a WS row.

Shape shoulders and back neck

Cast off rem 5(5:6:7:7) sts. With RS facing, slip centre 45(45:47:47:49) sts onto a holder, rejoin yarn to rem sts, k to end. Complete to match first side, reversing shapings.

FRONT

With 2.25mm needles and A, cast on 131(145:159:173:187) sts. K 10 rows. Change to 3mm needles. Beg with a k row, work 4 rows in st-st, ending with a WS row. Joining and breaking off colours as required and using the intarsia technique, work colour stripes and chevrons as follows: 1st row With B, k38(45:51:58:64), k11 sts as 1st row of body chart, with B, k82(89:97:104:112).

Joining and breaking colours as required and using the intarsia technique, work colour stripes and chevrons from Sleeve Chart as follows: 1st row (RS) With B, kfb, k20(21:22:23:24), k11 sts as 1st row of sleeve chart, with B, k20(21:22:23:24), kfb. 55(57:59:61:63) sts. 2nd row With B, p22(23:24:25:26), p11 sts as 2nd row of sleeve chart, with B, p22(23:24:25:26).

Dec 1 st at each end of next row and every foll RS row until 37 sts rem, then on foll 7 rows, ending with a WS row. Cast off rem 23 sts.

NECKBAND

Join right shoulder seam. With RS facing, 2.25mm needles and A, pick up and k22(22:24:24:26) sts down left front neck, k across 33 sts on front holder, pick up and k22(22:24:24:26) sts up right front neck, 7 sts down right back neck, k across 45(45:47:47:49) sts on back holder, then pick up and k7 sts up left back neck. 136(136:142:142:148) sts. K 10 rows. Cast off knitwise on WS.

TO MAKE UP

Join left shoulder seam. Sew sleeves into armholes, easing to fit. Join side and sleeve seams, carefully matching stripes.
