5 EYE UP WOBBLY LINES
From across the room, stare at something with a straight line, like a door or window frame. Look first with your right eye (put your palm over your left eye for 30 seconds), then swap to the other eye.
WHY? ‘Straight lines appearing distorted or wavy can be a sign of macular degeneration, a cause of blindness,’ says Stuart Burdett, lead regulation officer at Vision Express. ‘There are two types: wet and dry. The dry type progresses slowly and there’s no treatment; the wet type is often treatable when detected early.’
WHAT NOW See an optometrist for further tests. This DIY test is no substitute for regular eye examinations, which can also identify many other problems. The NHS recommends getting an eye test every two years – more, if advised by an optometrist.
