HUNGRY ALL THE TIME?

EAT TO STAY SATISFIED!

Put a lid on those longings for second helpings by adding satisfying foods to your diet, says naturopath Rick Hay.

PROTEIN POWDERS ‘These really do help to keep you satisfied,’ says Rick. ‘Make a green smoothie by mixing a scoop of protein powder with 250ml oat or almond milk, plus a handful of spinach and half a banana.’

SPINACH ‘According to one Swedish study, spinach is surprisingly good at keeping us satisfied,’ says Rick. ‘But it works best when chopped, so definitely get it into smoothies!’

PORRIDGE ‘Choose unprocessed and organic oats for your porridge, plus a few almond slivers,’ says Rick. ‘Oats help keep your blood sugar stable and beat cravings. Mix in some low-gi berries plus flax or chia seeds, too!’

APPLES ‘Try stewing them with a little cinnamon,’ says Rick. ‘Apples are rich in chromium and combining them with cinnamon makes for a great bloodsugar regulator and cravings buster.’

BEETROOT Don’t look to sugar when your energy flags – Rick suggests beetroot instead: ‘Add it to salads, soups and smoothies to curb sugar cravings!’

‘Plain organic yogurt keeps you feeling full and is a healthy cravings buster,’ says Rick. ‘Add pumpkin seeds for an extra boost!’

SWEET POTATO ‘Seriously better for you than the regular kind, they contain L-tryptophan to curb sugar pangs,’ says Rick. ‘Try a jacket sweet potato or baked fries – fantastic!’
