WHAT’S UP, DOC?

-

This series, there’s more drama than ever in the sleepy village of Portwenn.

Caroline Catz says…

‘What’s nice about Martin and Louisa being together now is that you have them trying to manage their lives while they’re both at a crossroads in their careers. They have [their son] James, which has altered the way they are together: they are trying so hard to be happy. This series picks up on all the things in life that happen. The extremes; those moments that take you unawares. But there’s still a lot of fun in it.’

Dame Eileen Atkins says…

‘Ruth is facing a health scare this series. She’s becoming increasingly forgetful, and feeling unwell. She’s very worried that she might be developing Alzheimer’s and her nephew, Martin, the doctor, is concerned about her. She’s also worried about Martin because she knows that if he doesn’t toe the line and prove he is a reliable doctor, he will be struck off – and then he’ll be out of work.’

Martin Clunes says…

‘The doc is in deep water at the beginning of the new series. We find him having to pass an assessment to see if he is competent to carry on practising as a GP. But his patients are actually supporting him: they don’t want to lose him. He and Louisa also make the decision to have another child. With the first pregnancy, Louisa sort of ran away and the doc wasn’t very involved, so he’s determined to be involved in this one – possibly overly so.’

The new series of Doc Martin starts on ITV this month
