This month’s audiobook, Will You Love Me?,

is by bestselling international author Cathy Glass and tells the story of Cathy’s own adopted daughter, Lucy. It’s a powerful read about how the little girl, after a difficult start in life, came to stay with Cathy. It follows the youngster’s journey of learning to live in a loving home, and the incredible bond she and Cathy developed. Here, Cathy chats to Prima about her career, writing routine and inspirations…

When did you first know you wanted to be

a writer? I was very young. I remember having a toy desk for Christmas and sitting at it for hours ‘writing’. So I guess I’ve always been a writer of sorts.

How did you get started? When I was at school, I had some poems published in the school magazine. I began writing full-length books in my 20s, although it was some years before I had one published.

What are you proudest of in your career? Knowing my fostering memoirs and self-help guides have helped others. Some people have suffered dreadfully and they find solace in my books. I receive many emails telling me how much my

books have helped and I’m really touched. I reply to as many as I can. What’s your writing routine? I think having one is important because it helps the creative process. Mine has to fit around my family and other commitments, so I write very early in the morning. Sometimes I am up at 4.30am! My first draft is always in longhand, then I type it into my computer. I only claimed a study in my home after my 10th book was published. Prior to that, I used the family computer in the front room. What advice would you give to would-be

authors? Begin with what is in your head and simply write. You can polish it when you edit. Get down that first draft, which will be very rough, then polish it until you are convinced your work is word perfect. It won’t be, it never is. But don’t ever submit anything that is second best. My book About Writing

And How To Publish is a useful tool.

Which other writers most inspire you? Fay Weldon inspired me many years ago. At present, I am reading Belinda Bauer. I like her style.

What audiobooks have you enjoyed recently?

Becoming by Michelle Obama, and Dreams From My Father by her hubby, Barack Obama.
