For more than 50 years, Slimming World’s expertise has helped millions of people to lose weight – and keep it off. Margaret puts its success down to the fact that it’s not actually a diet. With what is known as the Food Optimising plan, you can eat poultry, fish, lean meat, pasta, grains, fruit and veg (which are known as Free Food) without restriction or calorie counting. Healthy Extras (milk, cheese, cereal, wholemeal bread) bring balance, while an allowance of Syns (renamed from the original ‘sin’) means you can have the odd G&T or chocolate. Slimming World also encourages members to become more active and provides group support, either in person or online, from trained consultants and fellow slimmers. Together, the combination provides psychological support, motivation and inspiration to encourage long-term behaviour change*.
