Owned for over 400 years by the Dukes of Sutherland, the gardens re-opened to the public in May 2004.

SPRING HORTICULTU­RAL

HIGHLIGHTS: You’ll see tulips in a riot of colours, and there’s the Rose Border, which boasts 5,000 spring- and early summer-flowering bulbs. Sweet-scented narcissus and hyacinths have been planted in the Balustrade borders and Trentham’s woodland walks have new plantings of Narcissus Thalia, Anemone nemorosa and Cyclamen coum, in addition to drifts of wood anemones, bluebells and wild garlic.

For 2020, Trentham took its Spring Bulb Festival online with time-lapsed cameras giving virtual visitors their garden fix. If lockdown is still in place, this will be available again.
