My energy supplier is badgering me to have a smart meter installed. Do I really need one?

Around 40% of UK households already have a free smart meter, says Prima’s consumer affairs director Caroline Bloor. ‘The Government has issued targets for energy suppliers to install smart meters in all homes by the end of 2025. Your bills should be more accurate with a smart meter and there are no more readings. Having a smart meter may encourage you to use electricity more sparingly, as you’ll see in real time which devices guzzle the most energy. It’s up to you to turn off lights, though.’
