‘When I noticed hair falling out, I panicked’
Kelly Newton, 49, from Croydon ‘I started going through the menopause five years ago after a hysterectomy. I’ve always had fine hair but it was in great condition, so when I began to notice it falling out after washing, I panicked. It felt like clumps were coming out and I could see my scalp at the front where my hair had become thinner. I felt incredibly self-conscious. Friends have assured me it doesn’t look that bad, but I no longer wear my hair in a ponytail because I’m worried it could damage it further. I’ve now started washing it more often, using lots of conditioner to prevent breakage, making sure I’m getting the right vitamins, and massaging my scalp regularly, which seems to be helping.’
