THE ORCHARD

‘We can trace Highclere’s walled gardens and their groves of apple trees over some 800 years. The earliest records of the orchards stem from 1218, when 61 young trees were planted. We still harvest fruit from them today. The courtyards, orchards and gardens lay across what is now the east lawn. The farm and barn stood to the north.’
