GIVE YOUR BRAIN A BREAK

-

Winter means we spend more time indoors, which can lead to us resorting to too much Tv-watching or going online. If the news is stressing you out, try limiting your exposure to once or twice a day. Likewise, set boundaries for social media and switch off any unnecessary notifications. Getting out of your chair also helps your brain stop whirring, while physical activity is proven to release positive chemicals that have anti-inflammatory and antidepressant effects. ‘One of the reasons we feel lower in the winter is the fact we’re huddled inside, not moving much, which can make us feel lethargic,’ says British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy-accredited counsellor Cate Campbell. ‘Even a short walk to the shops can help. Walking early in the day, once it is light, has been shown to boost endorphin levels, making us feel more positive and alive.’
