‘I always feel confident wearing a bright lipstick, but I can see how teaming it with a contrasting blusher makes me look more chic!’ Shireen

ALL ABOUT THE LIPS

Hot pink and crimson are Shireen’s go-to lip colours, but she wants advice on how to pair these punchy shades with blusher. Applying eye makeup that complements (and doesn’t compete with) her lipstick is also high up on her list of beauty queries.

The hair

Hairstylist Sian refreshed Shireen’s short curls with a curl cream, then used a small, round heated brush to add definition and structure to the hair framing Shireen’s face. ‘With silver- and grey-coloured hair, I always recommend using a purple shampoo to knock back unflattering yellow tones,’ says Sian. As grey hair can sometimes feel dry, Sian suggests using an intense conditioning mask instead of regular conditioner. ‘Leave the mask on for two minutes instead of the usual 10 so that its rich formula won’t weigh the hair down but will leave it looking nourished, shiny and soft.’

The makeup

‘I didn’t want to cover Shireen’s skin with a heavy base,’ says makeup artist Anna. ‘Instead, a sheer tinted moisturiser camouflages redness without masking Shireen’s complexion.’ Anna chose a soft mauvetaupe eyeshadow that she blended from lash line to eyebrow. ‘Using one colour across the whole eyelid and lining the upper lash line with a dark brown gel eyeliner keeps the look natural but defined,’ she says. A cream blusher blended into the apples of the cheeks adds a fresh glow. ‘A contrast between the shade of the lipstick and blusher creates a modern look,’ says Anna, adding: ‘As a general rule, I pair bright-red lips with beige-pink blushers, while hot pink lipsticks work well with coral-tinted cheeks.’ Lastly, she dusted a lightweight finishing powder across the T-zone to reduce any excess shine.

What she wore

A little colour goes a long way! Here, Shireen shows how the right colours can light up your complexion and complement your makeup. Happy hues are a joy to wear, especially as we step into summer. Spend some time experimenting with different shades to see which ones complement your skin-tone. We finished off the looks with gold jewellery to further illuminate Shireen’s gorgeous skin.
