HOW TO: Refresh your style and escape a fashion rut

-

Fallen out of love with your clothes? Fed up of wearing the same old pieces? Here are some steps to restore your style confidence…

1

DO A WARDROBE MOT Take a step back and examine what is making you unhappy about your style. Have an afternoon sorting out and trying on items so that you can really see what you have. Identify your favourite pieces and those you rarely wear. What do you like or dislike about them? Is it the colour? The fabric? The fit? Use this knowledge to guide your shopping trips.

2

LOOK FOR INSPIRATION

Do a little research to see how other people are styling similar pieces to give you some new ideas. Look through your Prima magazine, watch TV and follow women whose style you admire on social media – study the way they put outfits together. Think about how you can incorporate and adapt elements of these looks into your own outfits.

3

START SMALL You’ll be surprised at how tiny shifts can change your style from safe to standout. A patterned neck scarf lifts stripes and jeans, a red handbag rejuvenates neutrals and new denim shapes can work wonders on your wardrobe.

4

ADD COLOUR OR PRINT

The fastest way to amp up your style is to inject colour and print into your outfits. Challenge yourself to add one new hue or print per look. Your confidence will keep on growing.

5

KEEP EXPERIMENTING

Set aside some time to mix, match and find new combinations with old clothes. Putting together outfits gets easier the more you practise. Keep a record of fab looks on your phone or in a notepad to refer back to.
