Staying in with… BRUNO TONIOLI

We ask the Britain’s Got Talent judge how he enjoys a night in…

-

Bruno, 67, splits his time between Los Angeles and London.

My ideal night in begins with... A nice meal and a bottle of wine, followed by a great movie. I’ll invite along… People with a sense of humour, who can laugh at themselves.

I’ll be eating… I do a Chicken Bruno, which my friends love – it’s a roast chicken with potatoes and arugula salad with Parmesan cheese.

And drinking… For red wine, an Italian Amarone della Valpolicella. For white, a lovely Pouilly-fumé. My best-ever dinner party was… A summer barbecue. I can’t tell you who, but a very well-known friend of mine went into labour.

I just thought she had indigestion because she’d eaten too many spare ribs!

My worst dinner party was… When I invited guests to my home in LA and prepared the meal for 7pm, but one guest didn’t turn up until 9pm, so the food had turned to gunge! When you cook fresh pasta, you have to eat it immediately. But it was okay in the end because this guest brought so much Champagne that it numbed the pain.

Top of my party playlist is… You can never fail with anything by ABBA or Queen.

My current boxset of choice is… I just devoured Happy Valley. It’s the best thing that I’ve seen this year, just incredible.

The book on my bedside table is… The Seven

Moons Of Maali Almeida by Shehan Karunatilaka, which won the Booker Prize last year.

The night will end… With a film or a TV show, then I’ll read in bed until around midnight.

My best hangover cure is… I never get hangovers, darling. As an Italian, you always have a glass of wine, but you never get drunk.
