LEE ABRAHAM MAKES GALAHAD RETURN

Former bassist takes up guitar duties on the band’s ambitious new album.

Galahad have a new guitarist, and he’s none other than former bassist Lee Abraham, who left in 2009 to pursue a solo career.

“What happened was that Roy Keyworth left the band while we were working on the acoustic album Quiet Storms earlier this year,” explains vocalist Stuart Nicholson. “So Karl Groom, our long‑time producer, played all the guitar on that one. But because of commitments with his own band Threshold, he couldn’t play on the album Seas Of Change. He suggested we get in some guest guitarists, including Lee.”

A phone conversation between Nicholson and Abraham led to the latter offering to rejoin Galahad taking over from Keyworth on a full‑time basis. And the frontman says he’s brought his own character to the new album.

“He’s given it a rockier feel, whereas Roy was a lot more of a prog traditionalist.”

“I never fell out with anyone in the band,” adds Abraham. “And there’s no clash with anything I’m doing solo.”

The new album, co‑produced by Groom with the band, features one 42‑minute track, subdivided into 12 sections.

“Dean Baker [keyboards] originally wrote a 10‑minute piece,” reveals Nicholson. “But we kept adding to it, until it became this length. It could have been even longer. The reason we’ve kept it down to 42 minutes is to make sure the music fits onto vinyl.”

The album will be released on vinyl early next year, followed by the CD and download versions. See www.galahadonline.com for more information. MD
