STOLT LAUNCHES NEW SUPERGROUP

The Sea Within are to release their debut album in Spring 2018 and confirm live date.

Roine Stolt has teamed up with fellow countryman and sometime Flower King/Agent Of Mercy Jonas Reingold and Daniel Gildenlöw (Pain Of Salvation), plus Marco Minnemann and Tom Brislin (Yes) for new prog supergroup The Sea Within.

Prog met the line-up at London’s Livingston Studios as they put the finishing touches to their as-yet untitled debut album. Working song titles include The Void and Broken Cord.

“I think it’s important that we all got together to record,” Stolt told us. “It helps signify that we’re a unit, not just a studio project. And as you’ve heard, it’s a slightly different sound, for me at least. A bit more up-tempo...”

The line-up spent a week together in north London, working on demos and generally socialising. The bond between the five was clearly evident.

“That’s important,” said Reingold. “A lot of prog musicians seem to work with each other all the time. So what is there that makes this different to some other guy who works with a lot of other people? The fact we’re all here, hanging out, making it feel like a band, not just guys emailing each other files, releasing a record and then disappearing. And we’ll be taking this out on the road.”

The Sea Within have already finalised their first show, and will be appearing at Night Of The Prog Festival on the weekend of 13-15 July. They’ll be joined on the bill by the likes of Riverside, Big Big Train and Camel. Further dates will follow, and the debut album will be released by InsideOut Records in Spring 2018. JE
