SUSANNA’S BAROQUE RELEASE
Norwegian singer-songwriter revisits melancholic themes with her haunting new collaborative collection that’s inspired by American folk.
Susanna Wallumrød releases Go Dig My Grave via SusannaSonata on February 9. She’s teamed up with harpist Giovanna Pessi on the unusual selection of American and British folk covers. “I’ve been travelling to the States quite a lot over the last few years and I really like going to music stores to find new things. I found vinyl copies of Jean Ritchie and Elizabeth Cotten albums and found their tragic stories really interesting,” reveals the Norwegian musician. “My previous collaboration with Giovanna, If Grief Could Wait [2011], had a lot of songs about solitude and loneliness, but we wanted to go deeper into tragic stories and bring American folk songs to the European material.”
Go Dig My Grave is reviewed this issue (see page 110). Wallumrød has also written an hour of new music inspired by the 15th century Flemish artist Hieronymus Bosch, which she plans to record later this year.
