ARCANE ROOTS REWORKED

British three-piece announce complementary EP and tease “unusual” live shows later in the year.

Arcane Roots are revisiting material from last year’s LP Melancholia Hymns for a september 14 release. the fourtrack Landslide eP is out on easy Life and contains reimagined versions of Before Me, Matter and off the Floor, as well as the brand new title track developed from early lyric ideas for solemn.

“we promised ourselves that because there was still so much within the songs we would keep developing them. I really like the idea of being able to tell more of a story lyrically or to tell the other side of that story,” reveals frontman andrew Groves. “[the track] Landslide is my favourite recording of ours and more indicative of where we might go on the next record.”

the eP continues the album’s “unfiltered” approach to influences with more inspiration coming from the worlds of electronic and atmospheric music. Groves even namechecks Iranian-Dutch artist sevdaliza and experimental pop artists FKa twigs and Banks among his more unconventional influences. the band, who appeared at the inaugural, Prog awardnominated space rocks event recently, will play at arctanGent Festival next month and support the eP with a handful of very special uK shows in what Groves describes as “unusual venues”. He adds, “we’re looking to create a live set that’s entirely organic so that each show is completely different. I’d like to extend parts, loop them, take them in another direction and control the elements in real time. It’ll also act as a transition while we start writing a new record.”
