THE JINSY BOYS
Spin-off LP from TV show This Is Jinsy in praise of three-colour biros and giant moths.
chris Bran and Justin Chubb (aka The Jinsy Boys) are the creators of the surreal Sky Atlantic comedy series This Is Jinsy – basically, The Mighty Boosh set on Father Ted’s Craggy Island and administered by Scarfolk Council. Suffice to say, it’s very funny. Part of its charm is the inclusion in every episode of various bizarre yet toetapping songs, with Bran and Chubb also proving to be talented musicians. Tvignest is an extension of this world, with unusual lyrical preoccupations and an atmosphere of cultish fervour throughout. But what makes it attractive for even non-converts is that
no matter how ridiculous the subject matter, the music is always played entirely straight and with some skill. Opening Ceremoni might resemble a mystical version of Spitting Image’s The Chicken Song,
but the instrumentation is spot-on, evoking the likes of Comus, Forest, and of course, the pagan folk of The Wicker Man. Similarly, Matt Berry fans will enjoy the rather lovely acoustic guitar and flute ballad Margery. Other irresistibly daft highlights include the naughty music hall skit I’ve Got Something, the lilting psychedelic lullaby of Astro Veg, and the a capella chorale String Vest.
