A NEW SOLO ERRA
Nosound mastermind announces his experimental instrumental album.
Giancarlo Erra releases his solo debut via Kscope on april 12. the eight eerie instrumental suites on ends have been created with the help of a Danish/icelandic quartet, who the italian musician assembled specifically for the project.
“i wanted this northern flavour to the music – less classical and sweeping, more weird and intricate. i think they’ve done a really great job on this album,” says erra.
He started working on the suites around the same time as last year’s nosound album, allow Yourself, and says they’re influenced by his love of contemporary classical sounds.
“it’s definitely not ambient, more like a minimalist soundtrack with a lot of electronics. i’ve been inspired by Max richter, nils Frahm, Ólafur arnalds, and maybe einaudi. there’s also some stuff like arvo Pärt; i love that kind of minimalism. there are some influences from early 70s electronica, like Klaus Schulze [tangerine Dream, ash ra], as well. this is the kind of music i listen to around 70-80 per cent of the time and it’s how most of my music is born. When i start to put words on they become songs, and once i think about songs they become music for a band. in this case, i just wanted to leave my music as it is the way it’s conceived and written.”
erra recently premiered the material live in norwich and has a second show lined up at rome’s auditorium lo Sciamano on april 13. More dates are expected to be announced soon. For the latest updates, visit www.facebook.com/giancarloerramusic.
