Seven By Seven
Prog asked Jerry Richards to choose a track from each of Hawklord’s seven albums…
WE ARE ONE (from We Are
One, 2012) With its punky riff, pounding drums and spacey synths,
Ron Tree’s snarling call to arms locates Hawklords at the snotty, new wave end of their ancestor’s muse. ELEMENTAL MIND (from
Dream, 2013) From an album based around numerology, this track gallops along, fuelled by a trippy cocktail of psychedelic keys and some “heavy, man” 12-string. STARSTRUCK (from Censored, 2014) A mind-blown acoustic ballad with echoing toms – ‘You can feel this storm approaching, so stay away from me.’ THE JOKER (from R:Evolution, 2015) Against a dramatic, tumbling riff, Tree accesses his inner John Lydon while the band thunder on towards oblivion.
SR-71 (from Fusion, 2016)
Described by Richards as “our Silver Machine”, it’s a catchy, pumping rocker with a great guest vocal by Girlschool’s Kim McAuliffe.
NIGHTSIDE (from Six, 2017)
A prime slice of metal-edged cosmic rock, with Richards unleashing his considerable guitar skills, as well as taking over vocals from the departed Tree. DEVIL IN YOUR HEAD (from Brave New World, 2018) Nice bass here from Tom Ashurst. Described as “A headphone album”, diabolic shards of guitar and keys leap out from the mix. JB
