Robert Calvert
“Robert Calvert and I grew up together on kent’s
Isle of Thanet. robert was the local beat poet, and I was the local beatnik.
“later I invited robert to join Hawkwind. He was still experiencing the manic depression he’d had since early days, and things sometimes tended to be rather unpredictable, but great fun, as he would contribute lots of wacky, wild ideas, as much a result of his condition as a cause of it. Mike Moorcock, Barney Bubbles and robert were ultimately responsible for creating Hawkwind’s image.
“The last Hawkwind album I worked on with robert was
astounding sounds, amazing Music [1976]. after I left the band I continued to collaborate with robert, and remained a close friend. robert died of a heart attack in august 1988. I miss him. He was my brother.”
