Franz Di Cioccio

- By George Roldan (RoSfest)

“I had the opportunity of working with this man at rosfest in 2018 and he’s simply incredible. di cioccio was 72 years old, but his energy levels were simply astounding. he was up there on stage for two hours, and worked his ass off!

“di cioccio’s enthusiasm and passion for the music is an object lesson to musicians who are a lot younger. he simply loves what he does. and he combines drumming with being the band’s frontman as well.

“i would regard him as one of the most technically gifted drum virtuosos on the planet, and that often gets overlooked because of his charisma up there in front of an audience.

“di cioccio founded pFm in 1970, and they became one of the most important progressive bands to come out of italy. you think about the fact that in their early days they brought in synthesisers to augment their sound when it was still a new instrument, and because of that they influenced so much that came after them. pFm were never afraid to be groundbreaking and take risks, and they owe a lot of that approach to di cioccio. he deserves iconic status.”
