Prog

Tim Bowness

- By Bjørn Riis

“T im’s been very important in my career. i discovered his band, no-Man, in the early 90s when i first got into prog, and it had a big impact.

“He’s broadened the progressive horizons, by bringing a singer/songwriting aspect to the music. He tapped into the likes of nick Drake and scott Walker and people of that type from the 60s and brought them up to date. He also took aspects from the new wave of progressive era in the early 80s and made them his own. But for me, tim’s biggest triumph is to make the poppier elements of music acceptable in prog. When you listen to a lot of music that my band, airbag, or anathema have done, then you can hear his inspiration.

“He’s heavily involved with Burning shed, too. this label and store have made a big difference to so many bands. in this day and age, having an outlet like this has helped to keep the progressive flame burning.”
