Prog

YOUR SHOUT!

From lounge-dance to full-blown concept albums. It rather begs the question: how prog are Lemon Jelly and Fred Deakin?

-

“Prog? Not really. They share something of the psychedelic sensibility of The Orb, maybe Underworld’s mellow moments (and share those acts’ strong visual aesthetic) and an absurdist streak à la Flaming Lips. I can see why they might have a bit of crossover appeal with our audience.” ANDY MORTON

“Who? They must be prog… so obscure I’ve never heard of them.” BRIAN TAIT

“Yes, trippy trance prog. Lemon Jelly are allowed to pass.” CHRIS BEMBRIDGE

“100% unfamiliar with them, can we get back to acts people have heard of? I still say OMD or The Stranglers should be in this question!” JASON RICHARDS

“Always loved their tunes, Lemon Jelly struck me as very original at the time. I didn’t know they were still going if they are.” TIM BURNESS

“Is prog trance a thing? If so, Lemon Jelly would slot in nicely. Great first two albums and the only people ever to put Angmering into a song.” PHIL WHITE

“Lemon Jelly were/are utter genius. Every track is stuffed full of subtlety, humour, catchiness and utter charm. The packaging added to the delight.” COLIN DENT

“If Public Service Broadcasting and Nordic Giants have been embraced into the community then so should Lemon Jelly. I am sure they have been an influence somewhere. Spoken word spliced into experimental electronica, huge themes of space and elements, as well as a great sense of humour. And even a concept album to boot. Normally part of the chill out crowd, but a band/ artist the broad-minded prog fan would love.” PAUL LEADER

“Lemon Jelly… I’ve always thought they were a bit proggy.” ALISON MCAULIFFE

“A cracking blend of sampling, electronics and live instrumentation. Saw them live twice… and definitely influenced me musically.” BEN HARRIS-HAYES

“Lemon Jelly – as unsatisfying as the foodstuff. Something listened to once – ooh, that’s nice. Erm, OK, bored now. Boards Of Canada much better and most of Plaid infinitely so.” MARINA ORGAN

“What I have heard they are a bit prog but lightweight. Not something I shall listen to again.” PAUL SWANTON

is my happy song. Can’t help but be happy when listening to it.” “The Staunton Lick LEE STEVENS

“Lemon Jelly lost its flavour after a few spins. Fluke, on the other hand...” MINI KINGMAN
