MOTORPSYCHO‘S REGAL RELEASE

Trondheim trio get heavier than ever before with Kingdom Of Oblivion.

Norwegian prog masterminds Motorpsycho aren’t sure how to describe their new album, Kingdom Of Oblivion, which is released on April 16 via Stickman Records.

“This is mostly relatively concise stuff for us, but some songs do go on for a bit,” says co-founder Bent Saether. “At one point we thought this would finally be our heavy metal album – and we’d be the first to admit to worshipping at the altar of Tony Iommi – but it kinda mutated and took a left turn somewhere in there, and I don’t know quite what to call this!”

The band rehearsed and demoed the music in their hometown of Trondheim, before heading to Black Box Studio in the French countryside, where they’d recorded 2020’s The All Is One. “Sonically it’s probably more or less the same,” says Saether,

“but the album has two new and different major musical threads running concurrently. On the one hand, it’s more heavy and riffy than most stuff on The All Is One, but on the other, the folk elements are more pronounced. The overall vibe is also surprisingly different, but I can’t really describe why that is!”

While the album sees Motorpsycho reunite with guest guitarist Reine Fiske from their previous release, they’re not treading water creatively. “We’re a musically restless band that thrive on not quite knowing what we’re doing,” says Saether. “If it feels somewhat unsafe it usually means that we’re onto something good!”
