PROGNOSIS FESTIVAL RETURNS FOR 2022
The two-day fest adds more bands to the bill, with some very special sets planned.
Prognosis festival has announced it will return in 2022 after its last two scheduled editions were cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The indoor event, which debuted in 2019, will be held at De Effenaar in Eindhoven, Netherlands and takes place from April 15-16 next year. Much of the lineup from the 2020 incarnation remains, with headliners Haken and Katatonia joined by Enslaved, Focus (celebrating their 50th anniversary), Long Distance Calling and more.
“Progressive music is a very vivid genre, so the Prognosis Festival is all about discovering things,” says organiser Paul van Berlo. “There are some very talented new bands we wanted to give a chance to and we also have well-known bands play sets that you can’t see anywhere else.”
British progressive metallers Haken will be performing tracks from 2018’s Vector and 2020’s Virus, which together form a two-part narrative. Guitarist Richard Henshall has promised a big production for their performance.
“The two albums were written to be one big piece of music so it feels like the right time to step up our production,” he enthuses. “I’m a big fan of Pink Floyd; Roger Waters leads the way in terms of the visual element of shows so that’s definitely something we aspire to. I’m really excited about what we’ll put together for the show.” Sweden’s Katatonia will be playing a ‘by request’ set.
“We saw the results of the voting from the first attempt to have this festival. A lot of classic songs were chosen but there were some cool hidden gems in there as well,” reveals vocalist Jonas Renkse. “We can’t wait to get back on stage and see our fans again.”
Two other unique performances will come from Germany’s The Ocean, who will play their latest album Phanerozoic II: Mesozoic | Cenozoic in full, and Norway’s Enslaved, who will perform a Heart Of The Norse Rhymes set, drawing on their mythology inspired material.
Also announced are Swiss folk proggers Cellar Darling, Rendezvous Point (featuring Leprous drummer Baard Kolstad), Dilemma, Scarlet Stories, Wheel, Maraton, The New Death Cult and British act The Fierce And The Dead. Rounding off the announcement are the dark, occult prog project Sermon, who say:
“It still blows my mind to share the bill with some lifelong musical heroes of mine. Clichéd as it sounds, it’s nothing short of an honour.” POW
