BTBAM ANNOUNCE COLORS SEQUEL
The genre-blending record will feature special guests including Mike Portnoy.
US progressive metallers Between The Buried And Me have surprised fans by announcing a sequel to their seminal 2007 album Colors, that will be released on August 20 via Sumerian Records. Vocalist Tommy Rogers says that now is the perfect time for Colors II.
“When we wrote Colors we were in a place where we really had to find our identity: we didn’t feel like we fitted in anywhere,” he explains. “With this pandemic we had tours cancelled, our livelihood was up in the air and again we didn’t feel like we belonged in a certain place. So we wanted to show that we can still kick ass and that we’re a band who plays by its own rules. Colors represented the ethos of what we wanted to do as a band and it’s been really interesting to see, 14 years later, what the idea of Colors now means to us individually; what’s combined makes our weird thing in 2021.”
With 12 tracks and over 75 minutes, it will be their longest record to date. Included is a track called Fix The Error, which features guest drum solos from Mike Portnoy, Navene Koperweis (Animals As Leaders) and Ken Schalk (Candiria).
“Mike invited us on tour with Dream Theater because he loved Colors so much, so it’s a nice full circle thing to have him on board,” says Rogers. “It’s been really tough to keep this under wraps. This last year has sucked, but we’re really proud with the art we achieved during it.”
