THE WATCH GO CONCEPTUAL ON THEIR NEW ALBUM
The Italian quintet release The Art Of Bleeding in September.
Italian proggers The Watch will release their new album The Art Of Bleeding through PickUp Records on September 24. It’s a concept album, with five stories that revolve around the idea of cathartic violence.
“Violence is something that we all abhor, but it is also part of our nature as human beings,” says frontman Simone Rossetti. “There’s a lot of aggressiveness in our society today. Today’s violence can be much more subtle and hidden than the raw violence of history. I’ve always been attracted to the idea of writing music that might evoke some dark atmospheres, so I engaged in this. In the pandemic period, we have all experienced something scary.”
The album includes a version of Howl The Stars Down, composed by Nick Magus. “About 10 years ago in London I sang this song on stage with [Nick],” says Rossetti. “I fell in love with it. The band discussed reinterpreting Howl… in a more acoustic guitar/ electronic way, and Nick was happy about the idea. We always loved and admired his music.”
