MOSTLY AUTUMN REFLECT ON NEW CD

The band’s 14th studio record is ‘a deep, heartfelt reflection’ on our troubled times.

Mostly Autumn will release their 14th album Graveyard Star on September 24, via Mostly Autumn Records, with distribution by Nova. It’s billed as ‘a deep, heartfelt reflection of how we were feeling through 2020/2021, a documentation of living through the pandemic’.

“Personally I found it all very surreal,” says Bryan Josh, “otherworldly, in fact, and of course very worrying. Logically you would think that, with all that time, lockdown would be ideal for writing and creating, but for me it kind of exploded all inspiration away and left a strange vacuum. As time went by though, my feelings about day-to-day life started presenting themselves in words and music. The album is soaked in the atmosphere of the time and is very honest. I think a lot of people will relate to it.”

Eighteen months in the making, the record features guest performances from Nightwish’s uilleann piper Troy Donockley and Fairport Convention fiddler/mandolinist Chris Leslie. Josh says the album stretched the boundaries of the band’s sound: “It was not intentional, it just happened that way – all the songs are very individual in how they sound and provoke. The band is on fire, and Olivia [Sparnenn-Josh]’s vocals are the strongest I’ve heard to date, dowsed in the petrol of this crazy time.”

The limited edition, double album version of Graveyard Star is currently available for pre-order, with the single, general release album out on September 24.
