Prog

Ed’s Letter

- Jerry Ewing – Editor

Hello, and welcome to the new issue of Prog. It’s not often I sit here not wanting to write my intro to the magazine, but this month that’s certainly been the case. It’s been a tough year all round for so many reasons, but made so much worse by the tragic death of Big Big Train singer David Longdon. Dreadful news for all of us, but especially the band, and even more so for my sister Sarah, David’s partner. I would just like to let you all know that your many messages of condolence and support in recognition of David as both a singer and musician, as well as what a wonderful human being he was, have been a comfort to her and she thanks you all.

As for this issue, you will probably have noticed that there is no CD. Sadly, due to a multitude of factors – the most important being a massive global shortage of polycarbonate (the raw material used in disc manufacture) and the increased closure of CD manufacturing plants in favour of vinyl pressing plants – it’s no longer logistically possible for us to continue with cover discs. I know this will be a disappointment to some of you.

We’re still committed to making the magazine of top value, so I hope you enjoy the Jethro Tull art prints and the MoonJune Records sampler included this month. These extras will continue each issue. We’re also still committed to promoting up-andcoming young prog talent, and while we’re looking into various ways of getting that new music to you, I’d be interested in hearing your thoughts on what form you’d like to see that take. Email me at: prog@futurenet.com. One thing remains certain, that we will be getting new prog music to you in some way. It just won’t be on CD anymore.

I wish it were better news to end 2021 with. All I can say at this juncture is that I sincerely hope 2022 is a better year for all of us. Take care, one and all.
