David Pannick Barrister
The UK’s outstanding public law barrister represented Gina Miller in the Supreme Court and beat the government—twice—when it tried to sideline parliament during the Brexit process. He presented the most recent set of the prestigious Hamlyn law lectures, formerly given by such luminaries as lords Denning and Bingham. His subject was advocacy—its essence, its morality and its future. Pannick is now being briefed by the Home Office to defend the Rwanda deportation plan in the courts—even though he voted against elements of the relevant legislation in the Lords. As he explains in his lectures, a lawyer is just a taxi for hire.
