Paul B Preciado
Philosopher
Women should go on a “uterus strike” and we should stop defining sex at birth—these are just two of the radical ideas proposed by Paul B Preciado, one of continental Europe’s most original thinkers on gender. A self-proclaimed “gender migrant,” Preciado uses his own experience of transitioning from female to male to interrogate the power relationships latent in gender and sexuality. Not everyone is comfortable with what Preciado has to say: an invitation to speak at the École de la Cause Freudienne’s annual conference in 2019 led to him being heckled before he could finish. With recent essay collections translated into English, Preciado may soon be ruffling feathers in the anglophone world too.
