How do nuclear power plants generate energy?
Nuclear power plants are commonly fuelled by uranium. The process works by splitting uranium atoms to produce energy, in a process known as fission. The energy released then heats water to produce steam to turn turbines that generate electricity. As nuclear power plants do not burn fuel, they do not release harmful emissions into the atmosphere.
