Sow for the soul

-

FINALLY, we’re moving into a new gardening calendar. If there was ever a year to forget about expensive gym memberships and take up outdoor pursuits, this is it! And, if the previous few winters are anything to go by, these early January weeks are the coldest of the year. Don’t let that dampen your enthusiasm – there’s something wild and beautiful about frozen landscapes… Something to light your soul with hope and wonder. We are on the cusp of spring growth – any minute now, it will poke out a few green shoots to lift the spirits.

I am brimming with excitement. The shortest day has passed, and we are on the fast track to fresh gardening endeavours. If you’re new to gardening, I suggest you research activities to start now – sowing sweet peas or snapdragons, or chitting first early potatoes.

I have a milestone birthday this year. In place of trepidation, I feel a deep and genuine gratitude for all that gardening has brought me: new friends and outlooks, and mindfulness by the bucketload. I can tell you in all honesty that I am in the best shape of my life – and not just physically. The time I spend connecting with nature has carried me through this difficult year. There is no better way to unwind than to witness nature continuing as if nothing has happened. Pay it back by looking after wildlife. Birds especially are in need of food and water during this period of scarcity.

I foresee a year of great personal growth. Not only for me but for the many others who are adapting to new beginnings. My spirits have been bolstered by the growth in interest around gardening this past year.

I have so many ideas, not just for my business, but for my customers and readers. Channel your newfound energy into growing: personally and spiritually. The rewards await you.
