LOVE IS A TWO-WAY STREET

I was inspired by Rachel Garnett’s article about caring for her late mother-in-law, Brenda, when she had Alzheimer’s disease (April issue). Rachel showed immense strength of character, not just in becoming Brenda’s carer when she already had two children to look after, but for having such an open heart.

People with Alzheimer’s are too often dismissed, ignored or infantilised, but Rachel took the opportunity to forge a wonderful relationship with her mother-inlaw, allowing Brenda to care for her as much as she cared for Brenda. In becoming the answer to someone else’s prayer, we often find the answers to our own.
