Land of plenty

Farmers in England could receive subsidies to ‘rewild’ their land, turning over hectares for animal preservation, flood plains and carbon capture. The ambitious post-brexit plan to reward environmental action rather than intensive food production has been described as ‘radical’ by the Government, with agriculture contributing 10 per cent of our greenhouse gases. But ecological and farming groups say more detail is needed on how to make it work successfully.
