steps to bedtime bliss

Encourage a great night’s sleep and transform your bedroom into a soothing sanctuary…

1

Keep your bedroom cool and well ventilated. The winning combination for a great night’s sleep is a cool, airy room with snug warm bedding. This allows you to breathe more freely. And, if you’re using a brilliant Southdown wool duvet, it will ‘breathe’ along with you, adjusting the microclimate around your body. A match made in heaven!

2

Resist the temptation to turn up the temperature. While this might well keep you warm as you drift off to dreamland, a stuffy bedroom is likely to leave you with a bunged-up nose and a heavy head the next day. It may also cause you to wake up in the middle of the night feeling hot and clammy. And, once awake, even though you will likely eventually get back to sleep, your precious REM sleep will already have been disrupted – and the damage been done.

3

Avoid synthetic duvets. Just like a stuffy bedroom, synthetic duvets can result in you waking up feeling clammy and overly hot. This is because they trap moisture around you – in other words, they don’t ‘breathe’ like natural wool duvets.

We all sweat. It’s nature’s way of regulating our body’s temperature. But synthetic bedding cannot deal adequately with this process. Wool, meanwhile, wicks moisture away from your body, leaving you cosy and comfy. Clever sheep!

The ideal sleeping environment is one that is slightly cooler rather than warmer. If you get too cold, you can always add a layer of something snuggly, such as a light wool throw or a pair of brushed-cotton pyjamas. But, when you get too hot, there is little you can do – except grow grumpier and more restless as you watch those middle-of-the-night minutes tick by.

So there are sound reasons why Southdown customers who chuck out their synthetic bedding, and settle down under a Southdown wool duvet instead, say it is, literally, an overnight revelation in comfort.

It’s time to create an environment in which your bedroom and bedding work in harmony – get set to sleep like a lamb!
