FIVE WAYS TO MAKE MORE SPACE FOR ADVENTURE

1 Remember, adventure does not have to involve travel: it can be revisiting who you were when you were 20, before responsibi­lity took over. See old friends, or stay in a hotel by yourself.

2 Plan a holiday or something to look forward to. ‘Even the anticipati­on of novelty can help us break out of the ordinary,’ says Hallissey.

3 Finding a higher purpose to motivate you, such as fundraisin­g for a charity, helps give us the resilience to take on a challenge.

4 ‘Tiptoe into uncharted territory,’ says Reid. ‘You don’t immediatel­y have to row an ocean. Try wild swimming instead of heading to the leisure centre next time you fancy a dip.’

5 Find a role model who inspires you. ‘Women who do challenges can inspire other women, because they show us what is possible,’ says Reid.
